The Wolf Hunter Guide
A overview of the The Wolf-Hunter world event introduced with season 4 - Shadows of the Deep where the player faces Jonas Vanderkill and his ship the Wolvenjager.
General
This world event features a boss fight against the before mentioned Wolvenjager a rank 12 DMC elite warship. The main reward being Vanderkill's Locker including an cosmetic ship set.
Vanderkill's DMC forces have arrived in the region, seeking a way to get the Schaduw.
Lore
Jonas Vanderkill, once the feared and ruthless Captain of the Schaduw, was in search of a mysterious artifact promising unworldly powers when possessing it. He traced rumors of it back to a small fishing village, plundering it and abducting a lady which was in possession of a strange relict, maybe it being the one he searched for the whole time.
Story Spoiler
Not of interest for him at this moment was the ladys name Mira and her husband, which would haunt him from this point on, named Vikram.
However the lady didn't reveal the secrets of the artifact and at a later point he was attacked by Uricko Freeman and his crew, what would later be written down as the legendary Schaduw's Heist, resulting in the sinking of the Schaduw and it's artifact with Vanderkill narrowly escaping the wreck.
Resurfacing a few years later, the merciless DMC pirate hunter returned aboard the Wolvenjager under Captain Slew. Tasked with tracking Rahma after her alleged coup attempt, Vanderkill successfully apprehended both Scurlock and Rahma on a remote, unnamed atoll. Yet his triumph was short-lived when the Wolvenjager found itself caught between their ships, forcing yet another hasty escape.
Now with rumors of the Schaduw sailing again on the seas spreading, Vanderkill has returned once more, commanding a new Wolvenjager. Determined to restore his tarnished reputation and to reclaim the once lost artifact.

Approach
This encounter shares similarities with other DMC elite warships like the Opwelling in regards to sailing behaviour and the use of reinforcements. However it has some unique attacks which make the fight special and can turn the fight quickly if ignored.
These unique attack and patterns can be summarized as following:
1. Speed Torpedos
Its regular attack features 3 waves á 4 torpedos that after being armed, indicated by a white light, pick up on speed and are homing. Upon impact they inflict a moderate amount of flooding damage and when being armed also an status effect that likely reduces the player's armor.
It's very likely to be the Dahaaka torpedo, which players also have access to, however it's not officially confirmed.

2. Torpedo Spam
During this attack huge amounts of regular torpedos are fired while the Wolvenjager is slowly turning resulting in a fan of torpedos. Each one dealing flooding damage.
As they are not homing and don't have any other special effects, they can be tanked with the right armor, like the Rhapsody of the Deep, equipped or evaded if the player positions itself far enough away.
3. Mine Throwing
It may seem at first glance like bombard shots, but those shots are mines that cause a moderate amount of explosive damage when hitting you directly, the same when hitting them afterwards in the fight. While they individually not do a lot of damage the mass thrown by the Wolvenjager can add up quickly, especially as its normally used in combination with attack 2. or 3..

4. Anchor Shot
This attack consists of a mortar shot fired at the player with no visible effect on the water or other visual indicator. However if hit, the player will, when he continues sailing, be pulled back to the spot, where the shot did land, for several seconds. The effect can be compared with the Vortex spawned by the Hubac Twins in the Chorus of Havoc world event, where the player is also pulled into the center of it.
It can feel and look like rubberbanding, but is the intended behaviour.
With this attacks, the following points should be kept in mind and focussed:
1. Target the weakpoints
As the ship doesn't have a lot of health, the weakpoints can appear optional, but I highly recommend focussing them as much as possible. Because when destroying them the fight can be finished quickly, without any reinforcements being called in. This is beneficial as the reinforcements will repair the Wolvenjager and also attack with a barrage of mortars causing the flooding status to quickly build up if being hit.
2. Stay very close
It can be helpful to stick close to the ship to avoid the armed effect and damage of torpedos, without them being armed even a regular dps loadout can soak up a lot of them. When staying close to it, its recommended to position so that his weakpoints can still be attacked. So either on his side or by sailing in his shadow / in the back of him.
If the player is good at aiming over long ranges, this can also be an option, but for most players it will likely cause the fight to take longer, which again will result in reinforcements being called in. It's also likely to get hit by the torpedos in this case.
Recommended Loadouts
With this in mind either a close combat/crew attack build could be used or a mid/long range build based on long guns.
For the mid/long range build does the Garuda work well as it shines in dealing weakpoint damage and by destroying them with a small number of hits dealing additional damage to the Wolvenjager.
When using the Garuda I recommend an repair weapon in the auxiliary slot which can be helpful when things are not going according to plan or to much torpedos did hit. Of course a more damage focussed option like the The Warhammer could also be used.
The loadout I used for farming him: The Wolf Sniper
After defeating it you will get several items including a Silver Chest and Vanderkill's Locker.
