The Divine Retribution world event introduced with the season Y1S3 - Into the Dragon's Wake features a fight against the Elder Shadowbeast, a dragon descendad from the heavens to strike fear and lightning among pirates who dare to challenge it.
In this rank 13 world event does the player need to take down the Elder Shadowbeast to retrieve its horn and sent it back to the heaven. The Reward for this undertaking is a Mysterious Chest featuring items and cosmetics.
A mysterious serpent has been sighted in the skies, striking its foes with lightning!
Locals whisper of a serpent like beast from the heavens lurking above the waters of the Indian Ocean. Unknown where it comes from, survivors say it is destroying any passing ships with strikes of lightning as an act of revenge for the chaos present on the Indian Ocean.
However a smaller group of people believe that the beasts are not summoned by nature, but by the will of a person with most suspecting a bond to Li Tian Ning's appearance and her Phoenix's Talon faction. Still no proof could be found of this theory.
This fight features several attacks and modes making it quite unique in the Skull and Bones world.
The fight takes always place at the same spot on the map, in the southeast of Rangnok Cave outpost in the Ring of Fire zone.
In general can the fight be split in two modes, the general and the lightning rain one, with the first one featuring a range of attacks and behaviours. Overall will the beast roam around in the world event area stopping from time to time to make its attack or when at lower health also attack mid-flight. When it stops or comes close, its weakpoints can be targeted more easily allowing the player to inflict high damage (see Weakpoints).
The Shadowbeast mostly deals electric damage with the lightstruck status applied to the player quite frequently. While the lightning hit itself can be braced the electric damage dealt from the status can not and adds up overtime, so having a Restoration Kit ready or using the
Tanashah or
Celestial Dance armor can help here, especially when running a ship with lower health.
1. Electric Orb
The shadowbeast stops and shots orbs of electric energy at players every ~3 seconds, dealing a moderate amount of damage.
The targeted player can change between the shots.
2. Electric Wrath
This attack is indicated by the mouth of the shadowbeast starting to glow red releasing, after a small charge window, a laser beam in front of it while flying in a straight line across the world event area. The damage dealt to the player highly depends on how long you've been hit by the beam with a high chance on being affected by the lightstruck status effect.
In this mode the beast flies up into the sky, making it untargettable for the player and lightning strikes hit all around the world event area activly chasing players. The strikes are indicated around 5 seconds before they hit by bubbles on the water allowing the player to evade them, when sailing an agile ship.
Each strike deals moderate amount of electric damage and charges up the lightstruck status.
A good way to evade the strikes is by alternating the ship of the speed every X seconds (depends on the acceleration of your ship) and to sail in a curve.
The shadowbeast has two zones of weakpoints, the first one being under its body/tail which can be hit when it flies by the player.
The second one is its head which can be hit easily when it uses its first attack.
Hitting an weakpoint can cause the shadowbeast to drop a Lightning Dragon Scale.
As mentioned in Electric Damage does the fight inflict a lot of electric damage and mostly takes place across long distance. Because of this the before mentioned armors can be used to support your survivability while most other armors will also work. The active movement here is more important for the own survivability.
Regarding weapons are long guns heavily recommend with maybe a combination of culverins or a ballista.
After defeating the Elder Shadowbeast you will get several items including Lightning Dragon Claw,
Lightning Dragon Scale,
Monstrous Tooth and the
Shadowbeast's Horn which can be handed in at the Sea People Huntmaster for the Mysterious Chest.
